Italian Fears to French Tears

At it again, Italy squeaked by to the group of eight in the 2008 UEFA European Cup, clinching a two-nil victory over Henri’s French squad.

With Ribery out of the match around the 10th minute, Italy secured the will of some supreme deity and French centreback Abidal was ejected from the game with a red card in the 24th minute for a heinous penalty against Italian attacker, Luca Toni.

Pirlo gave us our first goal of the fixture with a beautiful penalty kick that went to the upper-left corner of the French net, while De Rossi punted the ball towards the French goal, securing the final goal of the match off of Thierry Henri’s left boot.

All in all, our fears were allayed, while France once again goes home at the behest of the Azzurri.

Toronto Double Homicide and London-Style Street Snoopers

So…

The Toronto Police feel that we’re incapable of helping one another, and are far too stupid to put our trust in forensic services, so we are in dire need of cameras positioned all over the downtown core to deter would-be criminals, and to capture all the evil do-badders that would slit our collective throat in our sleep.

It’s probably no secret to you all that I’m not a big supporter of Big Brother watching me.

London Metro Police have already been shown the writing on the wall, Cameras aren’t deterring crime, nor are they catching any real criminals or solving any mysteries. Why is it that a failed snoop campaign can’t be reason enough to deter our own Torontonian doughnut munchers from pursuing the same endeavour? Probably the same reason why our own government is attempting to adopt a failed U.S.-style War on Drugs prohibition policy.

Regardless, this past weekend, two 25 year old males were shot dead in a Range Rover in the downtown core, with the shooter apparently escaping on pedal bike. It’s time to see what these cameras can do, or can’t do. But either way, it’s gonna sway Torontonians towards or away from these increasingly invasive measures.
