Rumble @ Rama X – “Marvellous” Marvin Sonsona vs. Alejandro “Payasito” Lopez Headlining

Great stand-up fight between the two headliners. Sonsona injured his left hand in the 3rd round, resulting in the young boxer’s inability to throw his signature forceful left hook. The two sluggers took the fight the full twelve, ending in a disappointing, but fair draw.

The Clean Slate

For all intents and purposes, this is my first post on my blog. Some have been following me since India, I thank you for your views and support. Some will be new followers of “misadventure digest” and I hope you will enjoy the things I will show you.

I’m a direct-entry into the second year of Loyalist College’s photojournalism program. It’s a two-year diploma program where we are expected to train in order to become newspaper photographers.

I hope to do just that.

I was a television broadcast student at Seneca College in Toronto. For a short time, I volunteered at Omni in the news camera department, where I lugged around sticks and sound kit for the real shooters. I also provided b-roll for the station on a part-time basis. I’ve been using still cameras since my childhood, and only started getting serious in the spring of 2003, when, in an act of reckless curiosity, I travelled to Rome in an effort to photograph the funeral of pope John Paul II.

I’m an extrovert, a Leo, a Canadian born of immigrants from Italy and Portugal. I’ve been described as funny, irreverent and politically incorrect.

In addition to seeing me as a talented young shooter, I hope you will also find me any combination of the above.

Cheers!

Raid of the Century (formerly: Why I don’t like guns pointed at me)

Hundreds of club-goers this morning in Toronto were moving to a different beat as police swooped in on three individuals suspected of bearing arms inside a King Street nightclub. While suspects were being detained in the early hours of the morning, ETF tactical officers held up a throng of revellers at gunpoint while uniformed officers searched them for additional weapons.
Police on-scene reported the recovery of three handguns and the detention and arrest of more than 4 individuals.

On an interesting note: Rihanna’s new squeeze and Toronto-based recording artist, Drake, seemed to have been out the door long before the boys in blue arrived. I’ll bet you *he* didn’t have a gun in his face.

I especially loved the part where we (people working at the club) were told to exit first, and the second the door opened, I had a pistol, carbine and a taser trained on my face and vital organs.

Please, gangsters and gang-bangers, remember that if you’re involved in some serious shit that necessitates the use of a firearm for personal protection, you *definitely* aren’t in a postition to be leaving your home. Leave the piece in the casa, or leave yourself there.

PC Tony Vella (MRO) was kind enough to speak to me. Vella has told me that the officers in charge of the investigation will be posting a major news release for the incident tomorrow morning, stay tuned.

Protest for Palestine

I had the distinct pleasure of attending Palestine House’s rally for the people of Gaza. Upwards of five thousand attendees made it out in the freezing cold, and marched from dundas square to the Israeli consulate and finally ended at the U.S. consulate.

Portfolio Review Time

Alright cats, cads, fobs, knobs and wingnuts.
It’s about high bloody time that I post my final portfolio selections, it’s 15 images, so bear with the load time, I’ve resized them all to fit on here and not destroy my bandwidth. This stuff has taken me too long to get to, and far too long to finish. My laziness has almost caught up with me.
The shots are divided up into three segments:

1) Visioni dell’India – This covers my impressions and the photographs which stand out from the rest during my month-long Indian Journey

2) Primo Uomo – Photos taken during an assembly of American expatriates in Toronto, for the 2008 election of Barack Obama to the office of POTUS

3) Distruzione nell’Midwest – An overview of the destruction of Picher, Oklahoma wrought by an F-4 Tornado

Enjoy!

Democrats Abroad Canada – Nov.4 Party Pictures

It’s taken me awhile to get this project up here. Shot selection and appropriate B&W controls befuddled me, learned a lot from this experience, and I’d like to thank Adrienne Jones from DAC for permitting me the same treatment and coverage as the pros received.

Enjoy!

Locks Fall, Esteem Soars

So, Michelangelo finally snipped Samson’s curls today. The beard’s gone, too.

This new burst of change included my resignation from 5ive, it’s been an absolute blast working with them, and I highly encourage all my Toronto-based and Toronto-visiting readers to head out to This Is London on Saturday nights and Lot332 on Friday nights to experience their jams. I’ve started application to several daytime gigs, and hopefully I’ll be able to amass some coinage so I can get back to school.
In the meantime, anyone need a photographer during the day?

Falling Out – My Third Impression

So I’m a nerd, we’ve established that throughout the past year or so that I’ve had this web-blog-flog-mawg.

I just purchased the fashionably late sequel to one of my all-time-favouratist games ever, Fallout. I still to this day have the game manuals and the original discs, to the chagrin of my old man, whom has a tendency to let me know that I can’t find anything in my own room, nevermind the 11-year old game manuals and CD-ROMs.

My first impressions were pretty good, up until I opened the game disc case… For those of you whom remember and still own the original two Fallout games published by Interplay; you may recall that the manuals were of the highest quality, and functioned as props more than simple manuals due to their print quality, paper selection, and content. These spiral-bound magnificos contained loads of in-game wisdom as well as some out of game witty thoughts.

A large part of immersion comes from the guide that you read while the game is installing. Unfortunately, eMershun gets thrown around a fair bit by two-bit g4mers, looking for their next Call of Duty fix when they aren’t running away in shame from their cloudy gaming addiction, but I’ll digress because that’s not what this post is about.

To illustrate the point, look below.
